The Temple Management has brought three Indian priests to oversee the daily rituals until now. The Saiva Siddhanta Ashram was incorporated as a non-profit organization, acquired the temple in May, and changed its name to Shiva Murugan Temple. In 1995 Subramuniya Swami agreed to sell the Concord Temple to the local Hindu community, leading to his efforts to establish an orthodox temple on Kauai Island, Hawaii. The site structure was originally owned by the Lutherans and later by the Greek Orthodox and comprises the temple with a social hall in the basement, a separate office building and classrooms, and a private Priests’ residence. It was chosen because it had already been a place of worship and its availability.
In 1988 the temple was relocated to a larger site in Concord, CA in order to serve the Hindu community better. The small temple could hardly handle the crowd of the devotees on typical festival days.
It quickly became a popular location for ever-growing Hindus people, some of whom knew the Sage from Sri Lanka, YogaSwami, who started the American Guru. It was based on the Saiva Siddhanta practices and the Palaniswami sivan Temple, offering Pujas to murtis of Ganesha, Muruga and Shiva. It is one of two temples run by elected members of the public in San Francisco Bay. The temple over time added the deities of Shiva, Lord Ganesha and Durga.
